Saturday was a big day! We harvested our first batch of chickens - 28 freedom rangers and 2 nearly grown roosters that were making a racket. We had several friends and family that came to join in the celebration. It was a really beautiful day - alot of sunshine and the temperature was perfect.

Overall, it was really alot of work - but because everyone pitched in...it was so much easier than it would have been had it just been Paul and I. I fed everyone lunch and the guys relaxed for a little football for awhile - then went on to finish the last 10 or so birds.

Now we have been packaging them and weighing them. Most of them are sold - not including the ones we're keeping for ourselves.

Next step? We're increasing the number of laying hens. After that, we are hoping to add pigs in an enclosed area in the woods. So free range pork...oink...oink....yummmmm!
